A Masonic Mural

Today in Masonic History we present A Masonic Mural.

If you are in the area of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, as I recently was, I recommend making a stop at the Grand Strand Lodge No. 392 of the Grand Lodge of South Carolina.

The lodge, which is located at 919 6th Ave South, North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina 29582, got a relatively recent facelist in the form of a Masonic Mural.

A new brother in the lodge Cat Taylor, who happens to be an art professor at Coastal Carolina Univeristy (CCU), designed the project.

Taylor said they "wanted to pay homage to the artists who created the founding fathers on currency." After designing the project, Taylor enlisted students from CCU to help complete the project. This gave the students some real world expiernce and the lodge a new interesting feature which is well worth the side trip if in the area.

The project almost didn't get off the ground when the county refused to give permits for the mural calling it "signage" instead of art. By annexing to the city of North Myrtle Beach they were able to get the project completed.

Grand Strand Lodge No. 392 was chartered in 1956 and is part of the 29th Masonic District of the Grand Lodge of South Carolina.
