Hiram Gregory Berry

Born August 27, 1824 - Died May 2, 1863

Berry was born in Rockland, Maine, which at the time was part of Thomaston, Maine.

Berry's military career began when he founded and commanded the "Rockland Guard", a militia unit know for it's drill and discipline. At the beginning of the American Civil War, Berry went to Augusta, ME to offer his services to the Governor. He was directed to recruit a regiment.

Berry severed at the First Battle of Bull Run (also known as the First Manassas). For his gallant service during the Battle he was promoted to Brigadier General. Later after the Battle of Seven Pines he would be promoted to Major General.

Berry would later die during the war at the Battle of Chancellorsville. He would be killed by a sharpshooter.

Berry was a member of Aurora Lodge No. 50 in Rockland, ME.
